With its three social and health facilities located side by side and approximately 900 spaces for patients, the IRCCS Ospedale Sacro Cuore Don Calabria in Negrar (Verona) is one of the most important healthcare providers in the North-Eastern part of Italy. Recently, in order to meet the strong demand for thermal and electrical energy, the hospital’s administration team has opted to install a cogeneration plant used to supply both electricity and thermal energy to the different buildings. AB technicians from Orzinuovi in Brescia began by analyzing the Hospital’s needs and subsequently designed and installed an Ecomax® 20 NGS plant with an electric production capacity of 2,006 kW and a thermal production capacity of 1,844 kW. The installation produces hot water fully consumed by the hospital structures, very Important its various functions. Thanks to this new plant commissioned at the end of 2018, the IRCC Ospedale Sacro Cuore Don Calabria is currently benefiting from a 60% savings on energy bills per year, in addition to a reduction of 2,325 tons of CO2 emitted per year.
In the past 30 years AB has established itself as the ideal international partner for energy efficiency in the healthcare sector, with its flexible indoor and outdoor solutions. Some of the major worldwide leaders in their respective fields have chosen AB as partner to achieve their energy efficiency objectives, integrating the company’s systems into their production sites to guarantee long-term environmental and cost benefits. AB’s cogeneration systems enable hospitals to reduce their energy costs, improve their environmental performance and increase their reliability. Many hospitals require high energy loads to provide heating, hot water and sterilization on a 24/7 basis, and they need the assurance of a continuous power supply for many activities of primary importance, including – first and foremost – operating theatres. The factors arguing in favor of cogeneration are numerous, including constant energy loads and the need of hospitals to operate continuously for the maximum possible number of hours of the week and year. To these, we can add the ability of AB solutions to also function as an energy supply independently of the grid, as well as the environmental and image benefits that derive from optimizing fuel usage and reducing CO2 emissions.
“We chose AB because we immediately received quick answers from a competent, dynamic, available and enthusiastic working group” – explained Paolo Martini, CTO of the IRCCS Ospedale Sacro Cuore Don Calabria. Our experience has certainly been positive, both in terms of the results we are obtaining and the collaboration with AB, as planning and installation timeframes have been respected and we have also been able to verify the efficiency of a punctual and highly reliable service”.
